Chhath puja is one of the ancient festivals generally celebrated in the Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand regions of India. In this Festival Lord Sun (Surya God) and Chhatti Maya are worshiped. People pray god to shower their blessings for their well-being, prosperity and happiness. Chhath Puja is also called Surya Shasti, Dala Chhath and Dala Puja.

 

This festival is observed for 4 days, which has fasting, holy bathing and finally giving Argh to Surya Dev. It is celebrated on the 6th day of Shukal Paksh during the month of Kartik as per Hindu calendar.

Sun or Surya Dev is the god of energy. He is worshipped on Chhath Puja for his blessing to lead prosperity and well-being. People celebrate this to thank god Surya for their crop's growth and morning argh is a request for bountiful crop and prosperity.

People gather near the banks of rivers or ponds to give Argh to Lord Sun and perform holy worship.

This festival is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in the different parts of India, mainly in Bihar Jharkhand and Eastern UP.
