(His Holiness) Gyalwang Drukpa is an active environmentalist, spiritual head of the Drukpa Lineage and an educator. He has millions of followers worldwide. It is the main Buddhist school in the Himalayas which was founded by the great Indian saint Naropa in 1016-1100 CE holding a 1000-year legacy in India.

Gyalwang Drukpa’s Mission in Life

His mission is to promote the philosophy of inner peace and universal harmony by integrating the spiritual tenets of love and appreciation into daily life. His work includes promoting and establishing educational institutions, gender equality, medical clinics, meditation centres and rebuilding heritage sites in the Himalayas. He is the spiritual director and founder of the award-winning Druk White Lotus School in Ladakh, India. It provides the students with a modern education while preserving their local culture.

The “Journey of Self-Awakening Retreat”

This Buddhist Monk mainly reminded us that the Guru’s longevity depends very much on the harmonious relationships amongst disciples and students. We should watch our minds carefully and refrain from harming any beings. His Holiness also expressed that after receiving the Dharma teachings, one ought to aspire towards Enlightenment, and we should start practicing from this very moment.

Teaching around the globe

The Gyalwang Drukpa began teachings in Hong Kong recently for the third annual Journey of Self-Awakening spiritual retreat. He spoke about the “Live to Love” philosophy, and the path of practice through serving others. We can plant a tree, help family or friends, and be active in our communities. Especially as practitioners on the Vajrayana path, the fast path, we must be eager and quick to help others with a happy heart. This will indirectly help oneself, as well. If we ignore the suffering beings out there, there would be little point to other religious practices. In the spirit of this pursuit to achieve real enlightenment and benefit others, we will be joyfully planting trees as part of the afternoon activities during today’s retreat. He has also spoken in many other nations on international platforms.
