Gayatri Jayanti a very significant festival in India. Since Vedas are central key to Hindu philosophy, and a Happy Gayatri Jayanti celebrates the birth of Goddess Gayatri, the mother Vedas, so Gayatri Jayanti has come to acquire a lot of importance. In fact, Goddess Gayatri is considered as Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva in the Vedas. She is also believed to be the second consort of Lord Brahma. There is a belief that Goddess appeared in the form of knowledge on the 11th, Shukla Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha. This day is celebrated as Gayatri Jayanti. The knowledge represented was mainly shared by sage Vishwamitra with the world, leading to the elimination of ignorance.

Goddess Gayatri – A Symbol of Artistic Splendour, Pure Wisdom & Prosperity

Goddess Gayatri is an incarnation of Goddess Saraswathi, who along with Lord Brahma gifted the four Vedas to mankind. Her personification – seated on a red lotus indicating wealth and having five faces that represent the five principle elements of nature namely earth, water, air, fire, and sky. It also symbolizes five pranas, i.e. Prana, Apana, Vyana, Udana and Samana. She is the only goddess with three eyes, similar to Lord Shiva.  Worshipping Maa Gayatri and invoking her blessings in a Homam reveals great wisdom, grants mental clarity and also inner enlightenment. The goddess has three names Savitri, Gayatri and Saraswati. Gayatri represents the senses, Savitri the master of Prana (life force) and Saraswathi symbolizes the power of speech.

On Gayatri Jayanti day, sage Vishwamitra first uttered Gayatri Mantra. Some people also believe that Goddess Gayatri appeared on the earth on this auspicious day. As the legends go, Goddess Gayatri is the Supreme Goddess and is also worshipped as Mother Goddess of Vedas. Devi Gayatri bestowed her devotees with all spiritual and worldly happiness.

Celebrations and Rituals of Happy Gayatri Jayanti 

Devotees offer special prayers and pujas to Goddess Gayatri. People from different walks of life gather to offer their respect and devotion in the form of prayers and puja which are conducted by Pandits. Satsangs and Kirtans are organized on this day, and the Gayatri Mantra is chanted. If devotees chant the Gayatri mantra, then there is no need to chant any other mantra. One must recite Gayatri mantra thrice a day, preferably in the morning, afternoon and evening.

The belief that Maa Gayatri appeared in the knowledge form on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshta marks the celebration of Happy Gayatri Jayanti. This knowledge was shared to the world by Sage Vishwamitra and thus contributed to removing ignorance.
