The beauty of the moon outshines the nature. Kartik Purnima is a festival celebrated in the month of kartik as per hindu calendar which is the full moon day (Purnima). It will be celebrated on 6th November 2014. It is also called Dev Deepawali and Tripurari Purnima. Tripurari is derived from the name of an Asur or demon called Tripurasar. Lord Shiv defeted him on this day and hence he was called Tripurai.Â This day considered being the most auspicious day. People perform Satya Narayan Vrat and Katha on this day and also people take holy bath in holy river Ganga. It is believed that performing holy bath and donating lamp to a priest will give very fruitful results. Also the holy bath washes all your sins and your soul is purified. This is considered to be the biggest Purnima Night. People also light earthen lamps in their houses and observe fast.
Hindu mythology says that Lord Vishnu incarnated himself as a Fish (Matasyavtar is also celebrated as the birthday of Vrinda (Tulsi) as well as Kartikey – son of Lord Shiva). Lord Krishna, who is incarnation of Lord Vishnu worshipped his lover Radha and performed a Ras leela.
Pushkar camel fair which is week-long affair is also commences on the night of Kartik Purnima. People take holy bath in the holy water of Pushkar Sarovar. Sikh celebrate Kartik Purnima as Guru Nanak Dev’s birthday. Kartik Purnima is celebrated in the entire country with so much of joy and faith and devotion.
