Lord Satyanarayana is the form of lord Mahavishnu. The Lord in this form is considered to be the embodiment of the truth. This puja is performed to ensure the prosperity , abundance, general happiness and well being of the family members. The ritual seemed to have gained popularity in modern times also. It is considerd to have beneficial effect upon those who perform it with reverence and sincerity. According to the legends associated with the ritual, several kings and merchants used to perform it in the past to overcome adversity, and earn the grace of Satyanarayan swami, a benevolent form of lord Vishnu.
Satyanarayana means the lord of truth or the truth itself. ‘Satya’ means truth which is opposit to ‘Asatya’ that is a lie or something that is not true. Lord Narayana is the almighty who is beleived to have created this world. So collectively it signifies the existence of almighty who created life, who created nature.The ritual worship of Lord Vishnu or Sri Satyanarayan Puja is generally performed on a full moon day or Purnima of every month or on any special occasion such as achieving a milestone or fulfilling a wish, as a special thanksgiving to the Godhead of the Hindu Trinity. The months of Kartik, Vaisakh, Shravan and Chaitra in the Hindu Calendar are ideal for this ritual.
