Meaning of Datta:

The One Who has been endowed with the anubhuti (spir­itual experience) of the unmanifest (nirgun) is called Datta. Dattatreya was born as the son of Atri Maharshi and Anasuya. The anubhuti of nirgun essentially means the realization that he is the soul (Atma). Or He has attained God-Realization.

It is also known as Datta Jayanti. This is the birthday celebration of the Hindu God Dattatreya. Although, He is combined form of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. It is celebrated on the full moon day of the Margashirsha (Agrahayana) month. According to the Hindu calendar (December/January) throughout the country and in particular in Maharashtra.

Puja and fasting on Dattatreya Jayanti:

On this day, people take bath in the morning in Holy River and observe fast. Puja is performed with flowers, lamps, and camphor.

Although, To obtain the spiritual benefit of the Datta principle, continuously chant Shri Gurudev Datta on this day.

Sri Dattatreya remained an Avadutha throughout his life a sage who remains in pure nature. He was a supreme yogi. Further, he narrated the secrets of Vedanta to Lord Subrahmanya. And this teaching later came to be known as Avadhuta Gita.

The twenty-four gurus that Dattatreya found in Nature and Society. Further, He became very famous and is part of several scriptures.
