After sometime when the powers or "Prakop" of Mahishasur crossed its limits, all the deitiesBrahma, Vishnu and Mahesh prayed Goddess Durga to end the evil of Mahishasur. She took the responsibility on her shoulder and ended his Prakop. She is called Katyayini as she is the daughter of Rishi Katya.
